How to Study Effectively

how to study effectively

You will be astonished to know that 94% of children, once in their lifetime have googled, “ How to study effectively.”

This article is not just for students but also parents. Parents, who must realize that just telling the child to study will not help him, instead parents must focus more on the child’s effective study habits. Giving atleast one technique on studying productivity can grasp their attention towards studies. There is no doubt that each child has his own method of studying. Some are morning rises whereas some are night owls.It is true that their productivity levels are different at different times

Remember, it is all about how smartly you study & not how hard you study. We will keep the article crisp & short by highlighting what is actually important for you.

So, let us begin –

Know about yourself

By strength & weakness all we mean is understanding what is he good at & what is he not. Start with focusing on what you are good at and make it your strength. For instance, if you are good with maths & you’re scoring B. Try to make it A by centralizing it. And if you’re weak in a subject – make a strategy on how you can tackle that. In the next point, we will tell you why it is important for you to make a strategy & how you can do it.

Your plan of Action.

Instead of riding off in all directions, know your plans. Ask a question to yourself – How can I make realistic plans & implement it. Promising yourself to burn midnight lamps and sitting with your books for the next 14 hours is not a good idea. You may do it, but you will lose your productivity. Research shows that if you study three hours during your productive hours, it will be equal to 10 hours of studying. So, how to make a plan for yourself-

  • Which time is best for you to study – Bring flexibility to your schedule.
  • Make short term plans – keep a daily checklist instead of making a schedule for a week or month.
  • Set a goal for yourself & stick to it even if the world goes upside down.
  • Give realistic goals to yourself.

Each child needs a tailored method of studying. Some students are auditory learners, some are visual learners, some are verbal learners & some are kinesthetic learners. Understand what suits you the best and go for it.

Focus on the end results.

Start with the end in the mind. Most of the students fail in their strategy  & give up halfway. But this is not how it works. You can modify & remould your strategies. Your aim should be clear and specific. If things are not making sense & outcomes are not fruitful, change your direction. Keep your eye to your aim. If you do this, even if you hate doing something, thinking about the end results will motivate you. If you’re not able to give yourself a direction – hire a private home tutor or a mentor for yourself who shows you the right path.

Revision is a must.

The importance of revision is two-fold. First, it will help you retain all the information, topics & methodologies . Secondly, it will reduce your stress & boost your confidence.

Note that there are a variety of students. Some with long term memory & some with short term memory. But that doesn’t impact the results. Society has created a border line between intelligent students & average students. But intelligence is an art which can be achieved through practice. The more you practice, the better you will get at it.

Create an Environment.

You cannot sit for studying amidst twenty people. Dedicate a specific space for yourself and set a timer for yourself. Remove all the distractions around yourself. Keep your things organised and handy. Prepare necessary notes for yourself. Prepare an environment that gives you positivity & competitive spirit. But it is also important to adapt yourself in any situation. Don’t just wait for the perfect environment to study. You need to cross all hurdles in order to achieve your aim. That hurdle can be in the form of disturbances. Become an inspiration for others by doing something extraordinary & appreciate yourself even for your small achievements.

And lastly all we can tell you is,” Motivation is what sets you in motion, habit is what keeps you going on.” – Jim Ryun

Wish you success learners !
